Copeland Islands Marine Park | British Columbia

Copeland Islands Marine Park is a BC Parks marine park made up of a small chain of islands, islets, and rocks in Thulin Passage. BC Parks says it is accessible only by boat, northwest of Lund and just off the Malaspina Peninsula.

The park is a popular kayaker stopover between Lund and Desolation Sound.

Why Visit Copeland Islands Marine Park

Copeland Islands is a classic boat-in and paddle-in marine park for visitors travelling the Desolation Sound area. Canoeists and kayakers can access both camping areas, and a Desolation Sound Parks backcountry registration is valid for overnight use in Copeland Islands, Malaspina, Roscoe Bay, and Desolation Sound Marine Parks.

Activities include wilderness camping, swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, kayaking, canoeing, tidal fishing, and wildlife viewing. The islands, channels, and reefs provide excellent diving, but there are no facilities or active commercial operators within the park, so divers must be self-sufficient.

Wildlife viewing can include bald eagles, harbour seals, sea lions, occasional deer, porpoises, killer whales, salmon, cod, and giant oysters. Limited anchorages are available for small vessels.

Things To Do

Plan around sea kayaking from Lund or Okeover, quiet island camping routes, boat-based exploring, cold-ocean swimming, snorkeling, self-sufficient scuba diving, tidal fishing with rockfish conservation area awareness, wildlife viewing, and Desolation Sound route planning.

Planning Notes

Do not discharge sewage in anchorages; keep sewage in holding tanks while at anchor. Parking is limited near Okeover and available privately in Lund. Check camping registration requirements, fishing rules, marine weather, and navigation before travelling.
