Chunamon Creek Ecological Reserve is a BC Parks ecological reserve in the Butler Range, west of Williston Lake and 54 kilometres north by northeast of Germansen Landing. BC Parks says it was established as a research area containing Sub-Boreal Spruce and Engelmann Spruce-Subalpine Fir ecosystems.
The reserve spans the Parsnip Trench and Southern Omineca Mountains terrestrial ecosections.
Chunamon Creek is a forest-research ecological reserve, not a recreation park. BC Parks explains that ecological reserves protect special natural ecosystems and support research and education.
The reserve is open to the public for non-destructive activities such as hiking, nature observation, and photography. Its main appeal is careful observation of the transition between Sub-Boreal Spruce and Engelmann Spruce-Subalpine Fir ecosystems in a remote Butler Range setting.
The two listed ecosections also connect the reserve to both trench and mountain landscapes.
That pairing gives the research area a broad elevational context.
Rules are strict because ecological values come first. Consumptive activities such as hunting, fishing, camping, and foraging are prohibited, and motorized vehicles are not allowed. BC Parks provides a detailed reserve description, and research or educational activities require a permit.
Plan around quiet walking, forest ecosystem observation, photography, non-destructive natural history study, and education-focused visits that avoid disturbing plants, soils, woody debris, or research values.
Use official maps for general information only, not legal boundaries or navigation. Do not camp, hunt, fish, forage, or use motorized vehicles, and apply for permits before research or education work.
