Canim Beach Park is a six hectare BC Parks site on the shore of Canim Lake, about 43 kilometres northeast of 100 Mile House by paved Canim Lake Road. BC Parks says the park offers views across Canim Lake to the Quesnel Highlands and Cariboo Mountains.
Canim Lake is one of the larger lakes in the Cariboo.
Canim Beach is a small lakefront park for swimming, paddling, fishing, picnicking, and waterskiing. The beach is a gravel-pebble remnant of glacial activity, and BC Parks describes it as a good place to cool off on a hot summer day.
The lake is scenic and popular for paddling, but it is large enough that wind can create big waves quickly. BC Parks recommends staying close to shore and wearing a personal flotation device. Canim Lake and other nearby lakes are popular for fishing, and private resorts in the area may offer rentals.
The park also connects visitors to the broader landscape, including Canim Falls at the east end of the lake in Wells Gray Park. It lies in Secwepemc traditional territory and is surrounded by Cariboo Basin forest with mature Douglas-fir.
Plan around Canim Lake views, pebble beach swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, picnicking, waterskiing, hiking toward Canim Falls from the logging-road trailhead, and quiet wildlife watching.
Swimmers should watch the steep drop-off away from shore. Stay close to shore when paddling if wind rises, keep pets leashed, carry a fishing licence, and do not disturb cultural sites or artifacts.
