Calvert Island Conservancy is a BC Parks conservancy directly south of Hakai Luxvbalis Conservancy, protecting the southern portion of Calvert Island on the outer coast near Rivers Inlet. BC Parks places it 95 kilometres north of Port Hardy, 118 kilometres southwest of Bella Coola, and 55 kilometres south of Bella Bella.
Access is by boat or seaplane.
Calvert Island rewards skilled coastal travellers with vacant white-sand beaches, wild outer-coast scenery, and serious marine recreation. BC Parks lists boating, whale watching, angling, scuba diving, hiking, wilderness camping, and advanced sea kayaking.
Small craft can find protected anchorage at Pruth Bay and Safety Cove. Pruth Bay is on the north side of Calvert Island and reached through Kwakshua Channel, while Safety Cove is the first protected anchorage on entering Fitz Hugh Sound.
The waters around Calvert Island are described by BC Parks as among the finest in the world for underwater exploration, with year-round viewing. The conservancy is within Wuikinuxv First Nation traditional territory and is co-managed under an agreement between the Wuikinuxv Nation and British Columbia.
Scheduled air service and charter boats serve nearby communities.
Plan around advanced sea kayaking, boating, white-sand beach exploration, wilderness camping, whale watching, scuba diving or snorkelling, salmon, halibut, lingcod, red snapper, and rockfish fishing, and anchorage planning.
There are no developed trails. Swimming is not recommended because the water is cold and rough. Check Rockfish Conservation Area restrictions, marine weather, seaplane or boat logistics, and cultural and conservation responsibilities.
