Call Lake Park | British Columbia

Call Lake Park is a BC Parks site about five kilometres southeast of Smithers. BC Parks describes an ecologically diverse area with rolling topography, wetlands, coniferous and deciduous forests, and rare grasslands.

Hiking, mountain biking, fishing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing all appear on the official activity list.

Why Visit Call Lake Park

Call Lake is a compact trail-and-lake park with easy Smithers access and varied habitat. One trail starts at the end of VanGaalen Road and follows a 700 metre ridge route with Bulkley Valley views before dropping to Call Lake.

The second trail starts at Mountainview Road and forms a three kilometre and five kilometre stacked loop that extends beyond the park boundary. Its upper section follows a ridge with views of the Bulkley Valley and Hudson Bay Mountain, while the lower section parallels Call Lake. Both trails can be used to carry a boat to the lake, and all boats must be removed after use.

Call Lake is stocked with brook trout, and ice fishing is popular in winter. The park also supports bird viewing near the lake, horseback riding, signed trail cycling, e-biking where designated, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, and snowmobile access to ice fishing locations only under a BC Parks letter of authorization.

Things To Do

Plan around ridge walking, the Mountainview loop, Call Lake fishing, canoe or kayak carry-in access, bird watching, trail cycling, horseback riding, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, and ice fishing.

Planning Notes

Bring drinking water because potable water is not available. Close gates, remove boats after use, follow snowmobile authorization rules, and keep speeds low where winter access is allowed.
