Butler Ridge Park | British Columbia

Butler Ridge Park is a BC Parks site on the north shore of Williston Lake's Peace Reach, about 40 kilometres west of Hudson's Hope off Highway 29. BC Parks says the park provides boat access to BC's largest man-made lake.

The ridge extends 15 kilometres south to north through the park.

Why Visit Butler Ridge Park

Butler Ridge is a lake-and-ridge park for visitors who want Williston Lake access, broad mountain views, fishing, wildlife viewing, and a rugged Peace region setting. A trail on the south side accesses Butler Ridge and provides views of Williston Lake and the surrounding Rocky Mountains.

The park supports swimming at your own risk, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, wildlife viewing, cycling on roadways, horseback riding, hunting in season, snowmobiling, and ski touring. Williston Lake has sport fish such as rainbow trout and kokanee.

Wildlife values are significant. BC Parks says stone sheep, moose, elk, deer, black bears, and grizzly bears frequent the park, and the area provides winter range for caribou and stone sheep habitat at higher elevations, plus moose and elk winter range lower down.

Things To Do

Plan around the Butler Ridge trail, Williston Lake views, boat access, unmarked swimming areas, canoeing, kayaking, rainbow trout and kokanee fishing, wildlife watching, road cycling, horseback riding, hunting, snowmobiling, and ski touring.

Planning Notes

Bring drinking water because potable water is not available. Use caution on Williston Lake because drifting debris emerges from the flooded lake bottom, and strong winds can create high waves on open water.
