Burdwood Group Conservancy is a cluster of islands between Gilford and Broughton islands at the entrance to Tribune Channel on British Columbia's southern Central Coast. BC Parks lists Denham Island, Walker Islet, and several unnamed islands and islets within the 121 hectare conservancy.
The conservancy is 48 kilometres northeast of Port McNeill and is reached only by boat or kayak.
Burdwood Group is a remote marine conservancy for careful boaters and paddlers. BC Parks says it protects largely undisturbed forested upland habitat within a rich marine environment, plus a moderately sized kelp bed, coastal bird habitat, marine mammals, salmon, intertidal species, and productive butter clam and littleneck clam populations.
Cultural-site protection is central. Shell beaches and shell middens are protected archaeological sites, and no shells or other materials may be removed. Ground disturbance such as digging is not permitted, and the foreshore protects culturally significant shell middens and intertidal clam gardens, or loxwiwe.
There are no toilets or facilities, and camping is kayak- or boat-access only.
BC Parks expects visitors to leave sites as found and avoid sharing sensitive locations on social media.
Plan around boat and kayak travel, primitive marine camping, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, fishing, kelp-bed and shorebird observation, respectful cultural-site awareness, and low-impact island exploration.
Bring drinking water because potable water is not available. Leave no trace, do not tag sensitive locations, avoid moving rocks, plants, trees, driftwood, or cultural material, use established campsites, and follow fire bans and First Nation protocols.
