Brim River Hot Springs Protected Area is a remote BC Parks protected area on the north side of Gardner Canal, about 15 kilometres west of Kemano Bay and 70 kilometres southeast of Kitamaat Village. BC Parks pairs its landscape story with adjoining Owyacumish River Park.
Access is by boat only, and Brim River is not suitable for jet boat travel.
Brim River is a rugged north coast wilderness setting of narrow valleys, steep bare rock walls, waterfalls, old-growth forest, and snow-capped Kitimat Coastal mountain peaks. The protected area contains natural, undeveloped hot springs and unique plant associations.
BC Parks says the hot spring source is about 56 degrees Celsius, with no facilities. Swimming is possible in the ocean, but the water is cold year-round. The area also protects undisturbed natural plant communities and high-value habitat created by the remote marine and freshwater interface.
Wildlife values are important. BC Parks notes habitat suitable for many species from shorebirds to grizzly bears, and visitors should be bear aware while on shore.
Plan around boat-based wilderness travel, natural hot spring observation, cold-water ocean swimming only with caution, experienced kayaking, fishing in Brim River, hunting during open season, shoreline wildlife awareness, and waterfall and old-growth scenery.
There are no developed trails. Use Marine Chart 3745 for Gardner Canal and NTS Map Sheet 103 H/9 for Brim River, secure scented items carefully, prepare for bears, and check weather and marine conditions.
