Boyle Point Park is a small day-use BC Parks site on the southern point of Denman Island, off central Vancouver Island. BC Parks describes a forested trail through second-growth forest to viewpoints over Baynes Sound and the Chrome Island Lighthouse.
Access begins with the Denman Island ferry from Buckley Bay, then local roads to the park.
Boyle Point is a compact island viewpoint park with a strong wildlife-watching payoff. The main hiking trail runs from the parking lot to the viewpoint, about 1.5 kilometres one way, with an average walking time of 25 minutes.
At the viewpoint, visitors can look for seals, sea lions, bald eagles, osprey, and seabirds. BC Parks notes that California and Steller sea lions come to the Boyle Point area in winter to feed on large schools of herring in Baynes Sound.
The park also protects older forest values. In 2013, 52 hectares were added to protect forest that had never been logged, including some of Denman Island's oldest and largest Douglas-fir, hemlock, and western cedar trees. The addition also includes rock meadows and wetland areas.
Plan around the 1.5 kilometre viewpoint trail, Baynes Sound and lighthouse views, sea lion and seabird watching, forest photography, careful cliff-area walking, pets on leash, and cycling only on roadways.
This park operates on a user-maintained basis, so facilities may be limited. Bring drinking water because potable water is not available, use caution near cliffs, keep pets controlled, and check ferry timing before travelling.
