Bodega Ridge Park | British Columbia

Bodega Ridge Park is a day-use BC Parks site on Galiano Island in the southern Gulf Islands. BC Parks describes the highlight as a four kilometre ridge rising 328 metres above sea level, with views over Trincomali Channel, Vancouver Island, and the Strait of Georgia.

Access is from Cottage Way off Porlier Pass Road, about three-quarters of the way along Galiano Island from the ferry terminal.

Why Visit Bodega Ridge Park

Bodega Ridge is one of the Gulf Islands' sharpest short-hike viewpoint parks. The trail climbs uphill through forest, then follows the ridge near the cliff edge and reaches the top in about 30 minutes. The full park trail continues to the northern park boundary.

The scenery is matched by sensitive ecological values. BC Parks notes that high cliffs provide habitat for bald eagles, peregrine falcons, and turkey vultures. Sandstone formations below the ridge support large wildflower populations that can be seen from the water by passing boaters and paddlers.

The park also protects rare and threatened marine and terrestrial species, plant communities such as hairy manzanita and Gray's desert-parsley, grasslands, Douglas-fir ecosystems, and important foreshore habitat for rockfish, lingcod, sea perch, crabs, bivalves, sea urchins, shrimp, starfish, and sponges.

Things To Do

Plan around ridge hiking, cliff-top viewpoints, wildlife viewing, photography, boat-based views of sandstone and wildflower areas, fishing subject to Rockfish Conservation Area limits, pets on leash, and hunting during open season.

Planning Notes

Stay on the designated trail and away from cliff edges. Bring your own water because potable water is not available, protect sensitive vegetation, check ferry timing, and review fishing restrictions before casting.
