Plan Blue River Black Spruce Park north of Kamloops with North Thompson paddling, fishing, black spruce wetlands, no facilities, no trails, and hunting rules.
Blue River Black Spruce Park is a BC Parks site in the Thompson region, 230 kilometres north of Kamloops on Highway 5. BC Parks says it is beside Highway 5 on the North Thompson River, at the north boundary of the community of Blue River.
No camping or day-use facilities are provided.
Why Visit Blue River Black Spruce Park
Blue River Black Spruce protects deep river meanders, oxbows, sandbars, uplands, and diverse wetland habitat along the North Thompson River. BC Parks says the park protects the southernmost extent of black spruce into the region, creating nature study and ecological education opportunities.
River access is part of the official visitor story. Canoe or kayak access is needed for the North Thompson River in this area, and BC Parks warns paddlers to use caution because sweepers and log jams may not be visible in advance.
Fishing opportunities include rainbow and bull trout, chinook and coho salmon. Hunting is permitted during open season. The conservation notes also identify acidic soils and associated plants such as sundew, Labrador tea, and sphagnum moss, plus habitat for moose, mule deer, black bear, great blue heron, and waterfowl.
Things To Do
