Beresford Island Ecological Reserve | British Columbia

Beresford Island Ecological Reserve is a BC Parks ecological reserve in the North Island region. BC Parks places it 23 kilometres west of Cape Scott on the Cook Bank, between Lanz and Sartine Islands in the Scott Group.

The reserve was established to protect colonies of nesting seabirds and their habitat, and it is closed to the public.

Why Visit Beresford Island Ecological Reserve

Beresford Island is not a public recreation destination. BC Parks explains that ecological reserves protect special natural ecosystems and support research and education. They are not intended for outdoor recreation.

The closure is the main planning fact. Visitors should not plan landing, camping, paddling stops, shore fishing, picnicking, casual wildlife viewing from land, or other on-site recreation inside the reserve. The reserve's purpose is to keep nesting seabird habitat protected from disturbance.

For research and education, BC Parks lists the biogeoclimatic zone as Coastal Western Hemlock. Both the terrestrial and marine ecosections are identified as Vancouver Island Shelf. The official page links to a detailed reserve description and says research and educational activities require a permit.

Its remote island setting makes closure compliance especially important. Use official information instead.

Things To Do

Plan around off-site learning, seabird nesting awareness, Vancouver Island Shelf research context, ecological-reserve rules, map review, permit investigation, and respecting the public closure.

Planning Notes

Do not plan public recreation here. Confirm closure status, legal boundaries, marine safety context, permit requirements, research permissions, wildlife protection rules, and BC Parks updates before any professional or educational inquiry.
