Bellhouse Park is a small BC Parks day-use park on Burrill Point on Galiano Island in the southern Gulf Islands. BC Parks says it is one kilometre west of Sturdies Bay and only a short walk north from the ferry dock, with the route well marked.
The park offers views of Active Pass, Mayne Island, and the Strait of Georgia.
Bellhouse is a compact picnic, viewpoint, and shoreline-walk park for visitors arriving on Galiano Island. BC Parks describes it as a good vantage point for watching ferries pass between the Gulf Islands.
A short, moderately easy trail winds through the park and along the rocky shoreline, with 10 to 30 minutes suggested to see the park. The route passes through Garry oak meadows before reaching shoreline rock formations and Active Pass views.
Activities include hiking, canoeing or kayaking access via Active Pass, and saltwater fishing from shore in the swift currents for salmon and cod. The rocky shoreline can make pulling out of the water difficult, so paddlers need to plan landings carefully.
The park also has local history: BC Parks says it was named after Leonard Thorneycroft Bellhouse, whose family owned the property from 1907, and that the land was formerly used by guests of Bellhouse's Farmhouse Inn.
Plan around picnicking, ferry watching, short shoreline walks, Active Pass views, Garry oak meadows, rock formation viewing, careful kayak access, shore fishing, and Galiano Island day-trip planning.
The park contains environmentally sensitive features. Stay on identified trails and keep off moss-covered rocks. Confirm ferry times, fishing rules, paddling conditions, pet rules, and BC Parks updates before travelling.
