Anstey Hunakwa Park is a BC Parks site in the Thompson region at the north end of Shuswap Lake. BC Parks says it extends from lakeshore to alpine environments and includes Hunakwa Lake and Wright Lake, two lakes that cannot be reached by road.
Main access is by boat to the north end of Anstey Arm on Shuswap Lake.
Anstey Hunakwa is for visitors seeking boat-access beaches, remote forest, rough hiking, paddling, and Shuswap Lake fishing. BC Parks says the north end of Anstey Arm is valued for recreational opportunities, sandy beaches, and salmon habitat.
The park includes extensive old-growth forest in Engelmann spruce-subalpine fir and interior cedar-hemlock zones. From Anstey Arm, a three kilometre trail reaches the south end of Hunakwa Lake. BC Parks warns that the trail can be rough and wet.
Paddlers can canoe or kayak, but watercraft must be portaged to Hunakwa Lake Trail, about three kilometres, and there is no vehicle access. Fishing is available on Shuswap Lake, which BC Parks says contains 19 fish species and year-round fishing, including lake trout, rainbow trout, bull trout, kokanee, burbot, and whitefish.
Plan around boat-access beaches, swimming, Hunakwa Lake Trail, canoeing, kayaking, portage planning, Shuswap Lake fishing, seasonal hunting, old-growth forest observation, and wildlife awareness.
Beaching boats can be difficult because of shallow water, sandy beaches, and rocky shoreline. Most of the park is remote with no facilities or potable water, so confirm weather, lake conditions, maps, and BC Parks updates.
