Anderson Flats Park is a BC Parks site in the Skeena East region, between South Hazelton and the Village of Hazelton. Also known as Mission Flats or The Forks, it sits in Gitxsan traditional territory at the confluence of the Bulkley and Skeena Rivers.
BC Parks says the park was established in 2007 and covers 99 hectares.
Anderson Flats is a riverfront day-use and fishing park shaped by two major northwest BC rivers. BC Parks says it includes 1,300 metres of river frontage on the Bulkley and Skeena Rivers, 17 hectares of floodplain, and forested terraces.
The fishing value is central. BC Parks describes the Skeena and Bulkley as Class II waters and says the park provides world-class fishing opportunities. Peak angling season is late July through early September, with chinook and coho salmon, steelhead, rainbow trout, bull trout, and cutthroat trout migrating past the park. All wild steelhead must be released.
Scenic value is also strong, with views of the Rocher de Boule Range and Hagwilget Peak. The park provides riverfront access and day-use recreation from June through September for visitors including children, seniors, and people with limited mobility.
Plan around riverbank walking, world-class angling, Skeena and Bulkley river viewing, canoe or kayak put-in and take-out planning, small power-boat use during favourable conditions, and floodplain scenery.
Watch steep banks, sharp corners, restricted visibility, fast river-level changes, bears, and wildfire risk. Motorized off-road use is not allowed, garbage facilities are not provided, and sensitive cottonwood restoration areas should be respected.
