Ancient Forest/Chun T'oh Whudujut Park is a BC Parks site in the Omineca region, midway between Prince George and McBride on Highway 16. BC Parks places it about 115 kilometres east of Prince George and 103 kilometres west of McBride.
The park protects part of the only inland temperate rainforest in the world, in the traditional territory of the Lheidli T'enneh.
Ancient Forest is one of British Columbia's signature boardwalk hikes. BC Parks says the Ancient Forest trail passes thousand-year-old western redcedars and a rich biodiversity of plants, mosses, lichens, and fungi.
The universal access boardwalk is about 450 metres one way and gives visitors with a wide range of abilities a way to experience the inland rainforest. Another 2.3 kilometres of boardwalk reaches named features including Big Tree, Tree Beard, Radies Tree, and a cascading waterfall.
More demanding hikers can consider Driscoll Ridge Trail, a strenuous 15.5 kilometre loop to the ridge line on the south side of the park. BC Parks says it should only be attempted by experienced, well-prepared hikers in good physical condition.
Plan around the universal access boardwalk, Ancient Forest Boardwalk Trail, Driscoll Ridge hiking, leashed-pet walks on boardwalk trails, snowshoeing in winter, rare-plant awareness, and hunting only where permitted.
Bring drinking water, since potable water is not available. Overnight camping, smoking on Ancient Forest trails, and campfires are not allowed. Check winter parking, trail conditions, highway closures, and BC Parks updates before travelling.
