How Priddis Started
Priddis is named for Charles Priddis, a homesteader associated with Fish Creek in the 1880s. Like many foothills communities, it grew from ranching, homesteading, creek crossings and local institutions rather than from a large town plan.
The Priddis Community Association identifies Priddis Hall as Alberta’s oldest active hall, built in 1900. That single building says a lot about the hamlet. Instead of a dense commercial strip, Priddis developed around rural gathering space, volunteer work, seasonal events and families spread across the surrounding countryside.
Foothills County now provides the municipal framework for Priddis and nearby hamlets. The hamlet has stayed small, while the wider area has become a sought-after rural landscape close to Calgary.
What Priddis Is Like Today
Priddis is still a tiny hamlet rather than an incorporated municipality. Older municipal counts placed the hamlet itself below 100 residents, while Foothills County’s wider rural population is much larger. Visitors should read the place as a community hub for a broad countryside, not as a town with many storefronts.
The present-day identity is local and event-driven. Priddis Hall hosts rentals, community programs and seasonal gatherings. The outdoor rink, local groups, library programming and community fair give residents regular reasons to gather.
For travellers, Priddis is strongest as a slow foothills stop. It gives easy access to country views, the Priddis Greens area and driving routes toward Millarville, Bragg Creek and the Cowboy Trail corridor.

Start at Priddis Hall if an event, market, fair or rental activity is scheduled. The hall and grounds are the clearest public expression of the community.
Priddis Greens Golf and Country Club sits nearby in the foothills. Travel Alberta notes the club’s two 18-hole courses and year-round public-facing dining and seasonal activities, though course access is private to members. Confirm current access before planning around it.
The surrounding roads are the other attraction. A drive through Priddis, Priddis Greens and nearby Foothills County ranchland works well when skies are clear and mountain views are open. Keep stops respectful, since many scenic areas are residential or agricultural land.
