Williamson Provincial Park is an Alberta Parks provincial park in the North region, 17 kilometres west of Valleyview on Highway 43 and two kilometres north on the access road. Alberta Parks lists one campground and one day-use area.
The official page says Williamson is a small 17-hectare park on the south shore of Sturgeon Lake, established in 1960.
Williamson is a compact lake park for camping, beach time, swimming, paddling, sailing, wind surfing, fishing, and campfire evenings on Sturgeon Lake. Alberta Parks says the park is named after Alexander Williamson, one of the area's first settlers, who came to Canada from Scotland in the 1920s.
Activities include beach use, camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, ice fishing, power boating, sailing, swimming, water skiing, and wind surfing. Water activities carry aquatic invasive species reminders, so visitors should clean, drain, and dry gear.
The official beach note places the beach north of the main campground. Because the park is small, campground availability, lake conditions, weather, and day-use expectations should be checked before building a full weekend around it.
Williamson is best suited to simple Sturgeon Lake camping and water recreation rather than a large trail or interpretive destination.
Plan around camping, beach use, swimming, canoeing, kayaking, power boating, sailing, wind surfing, water skiing, fishing, ice fishing, and relaxed lake evenings.
Confirm campground status, beach access, lake and ice conditions, AIS precautions, fishing regulations, maps, weather, wildlife safety, and Alberta Parks updates before travelling.
