Whitehorse Creek Provincial Recreation Area | Alberta

Whitehorse Creek Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks recreation area in the Central region, about six kilometres southwest of Cadomin on a gravel access road. Alberta Parks lists one campground and no developed day-use area count.

West Fraser Mills-Fox Creek Development Association is shown as facility operator.

Why Visit Whitehorse Creek Provincial Recreation Area

Whitehorse Creek is a staging campground on the northeastern boundary of Whitehorse Wildland Provincial Park, near the confluence of Whitehorse Creek and the McLeod River. Alberta Parks describes scenic creekside camping, access to wildland trails, nearby mountain scrambling, fishing, horseback riding, and waterfalls.

The campground is equipped for equestrian users with corrals, hitching rails, and a loading ramp, and Alberta Parks recommends reservations. Activities include camping, backcountry hiking, front-country hiking, equestrian use, mountain biking and cycling, wildlife viewing, and electric bicycles.

Access requires checking. Whitehorse Creek Campground is accessible from Cadomin, but there is no winter road maintenance. Grave Flats Road, also known as Cardinal River Road, through Cardinal Divide in Whitehorse Wildland Park is open during summer.

The official page also notes that Cheviot Mines project information is available by phone.

Equestrian users should reserve early because staging facilities are a key reason to visit.
