White Goat Wilderness Area is an Alberta Parks wilderness area in the Central region, 60 kilometres southwest of Nordegg, north of Highway 11 along the eastern borders of Banff and Jasper national parks. Alberta Parks lists one backcountry camping area and no developed day-use area count.
The official page currently flags fire-ban status and lists no fires as activity guidance.
White Goat is a 446-square-kilometre alpine and subalpine wilderness area for visitors seeking solitude, foot travel, random camping, and serious route planning. Alberta Parks says wilderness areas offer the challenge and solitude of an undisturbed natural setting.
Travel is by foot only. Horses and mountain bikes are not permitted. Random backcountry camping is allowed, but there are no campsites or facilities and no permit or fee is required.
Access is demanding. Alberta Parks lists east access at Highway 11 and the Cline River, southwest access along Norman Creek off Highway 93, and north access by Nigel Creek trailhead near Sunwapta Pass. It is a four-to-five-hour hike to the wilderness boundary, and most routes began as pack trails and are not maintained.
Hunting and fishing are prohibited. Leave a route and return-time plan with family or friends.
Plan around foot-only backcountry hiking, random camping, route research, Cline River, Norman Creek and Nigel Creek access, topo map review, no-fire compliance, and wilderness solitude.
