West Bragg Creek Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks day-use recreation area in Kananaskis, nine kilometres west of Bragg Creek and about 30 kilometres from Calgary. Alberta Parks lists one day-use area.
A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required to park in Kananaskis and the Bow Valley. Kananaskis Campground Services Inc. is shown as facility operator.
West Bragg Creek is a major trail access point for hundreds of kilometres of multi-use trails in the surrounding Kananaskis Public Land Use Zone. Alberta Parks says hikers, mountain bikers, and equestrians can all enjoy the area, and points visitors to Bragg Creek Trails for more information.
Activities include cross-country skiing, front-country hiking, mountain biking and cycling, trail running, geocaching, and electric bicycles. The terrain is mostly gentle and rolling, with aspen and evergreen forest, logged openings, creeks, springs, wetlands, and wide views.
Maps are central to planning. Alberta Parks links Elbow Valley maps and West Bragg Creek georeferenced trail maps with many named routes, day-use areas, and nearby Kananaskis facilities.
Because the trail network is busy and multi-use, match route choice to season, trail reports, user type, and current conditions.
Weekends can be very busy.
Plan around cross-country skiing, hiking, trail running, mountain biking, e-biking, geocaching, multi-use trail etiquette, Bragg Creek Trails research, and map review.
Confirm Conservation Pass requirements, day-use access, trail reports, seasonal closures, bike and e-bike rules, maps, operator updates, weather, wildlife safety, and Alberta Parks updates.
