Tay River Provincial Recreation Area | Alberta

Tay River Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks recreation area in the Central region, 16 kilometres southwest of Caroline on Highway 591. Alberta Parks lists one campground and no developed day-use area count.

The official page says campsites suit both RVs and tents, with most sites in an open grassy field and a few by the river.

Why Visit Tay River Provincial Recreation Area

Tay River is a simple riverside campground for camping, fishing, and access to nearby trail country. Alberta Parks invites visitors to dip their toes in the river or cast a line, while the activity list includes camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, off-site OHV riding, and off-site snowmobiling.

Canoeing and kayaking carry aquatic invasive species reminders, so paddlers should clean, drain, and dry gear. Fishing plans should include current provincial rules and river conditions.

The trail-access rules are specific. Alberta Parks says campers may use the area's proximity to OHV and equestrian trails, but off-loading or operating OHVs inside the park is prohibited. OHVs must stay on trailers until they reach nearby trail systems and staging areas. Horses are not permitted within park boundaries.

Plan Tay River as a campground beside nearby trail networks, not as an in-park riding area.

Things To Do

Plan around RV and tent camping, riverside sites, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, off-site OHV and snowmobile research, nearby equestrian trail access, and river relaxation.

Planning Notes

Confirm campground status, river conditions, AIS precautions, fishing regulations, OHV and snowmobile limits, horse-use rules, maps, road conditions, weather, and Alberta Parks updates.
