Swan Lake Provincial Recreation Area | Alberta

Swan Lake Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks recreation area in the Central region, 40 kilometres southwest of Rocky Mountain House on Highway 752 and 20 kilometres southeast on an access road. Alberta Parks lists one campground and one day-use area.

The official page describes Swan Lake as a place for fishing, boating, kayaking, and peaceful camping.

Why Visit Swan Lake Provincial Recreation Area

Swan Lake is a rustic lake campground for anglers, paddlers, boaters, and campers who want a quieter base southwest of Rocky Mountain House. Alberta Parks identifies Swan Lake as a trophy lake.

Activities include camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, off-site OHV riding, power boating, and off-site snowmobiling. Canoeing, kayaking, and power boating carry aquatic invasive species reminders.

Power vessels are subject to a 12 kilometre-per-hour speed limit. That slower profile fits a lake where fishing and peaceful camping are part of the appeal.

OHV and snowmobile rules are strict inside the recreation area. Alberta Parks says nearby informal trails exist, but off-loading within the provincial recreation area and travel to the trails or winter lake access are prohibited.

The gravel access road and remote lake setting make current road and weather checks worthwhile before departure and return.

Things To Do

Plan around camping, day use, trophy lake fishing, canoeing, kayaking, slow power boating, peaceful shoreline time, campground-map review, and nearby trail research.

Planning Notes

Confirm campground status, access-road conditions, fishing regulations, 12 km/h boating, AIS precautions, OHV and snowmobile restrictions, maps, weather, and Alberta Parks updates.
