Siffleur Wilderness Area | Alberta

Siffleur Wilderness Area is an Alberta Parks wilderness area in the Central region, 60 kilometres southwest of Nordegg, south of the David Thompson Highway along the eastern border of Banff National Park. Alberta Parks lists one backcountry camping area and no developed day-use area count.

The official page places Siffleur in the alpine and subalpine subregions of the Rocky Mountain Natural Region.

Why Visit Siffleur Wilderness Area

Siffleur is a 412-square-kilometre wilderness area for visitors seeking solitude, foot travel, and self-reliant backcountry planning. Alberta Parks describes wilderness areas as undisturbed natural settings and lists backcountry camping, backcountry hiking, and no fires as the core activity guidance.

Travel rules are strict. Alberta Parks says travel in Siffleur Wilderness Area is by foot only; horses and mountain bikes are not permitted. Hunting and fishing are also prohibited.

The most popular access is from Highway 11 at the Siffleur Falls trailhead, about 65 kilometres west of Nordegg. Alberta Parks notes that most routes into the area began as seismic lines and are not maintained, so navigation should rely on appropriate topographic maps rather than built trail expectations.

Random backcountry camping is permitted, with no campsites, facilities, permit, or fee. Visitors should leave a route plan, intended camping stops, and expected return time with family or friends before travelling.

Things To Do

Plan around foot-only backcountry hiking, random camping, route research, Siffleur Falls access planning, topographic map review, no-fire compliance, and wilderness solitude.
