Pembina Forks Provincial Recreation Area | Alberta

Pembina Forks Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks recreation area in the Central region, 40 kilometres south of Robb on Highway 40. Alberta Parks lists one campground and no developed day-use area count.

West Fraser Mills-Fox Creek Development Association is shown as facility operator.

Why Visit Pembina Forks Provincial Recreation Area

Pembina Forks is a quiet campground where the McLeod River meets the Pembina River. Alberta Parks describes a small campground nestled in the trees, with well-spaced sites and access to both rivers.

Activities include camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, front-country hiking, mountain biking and cycling, fat biking, and electric bicycles. The official page says visitors can fish in the Pembina River and McLeod River. Canoeing and kayaking include aquatic invasive species reminders, so paddlers should plan clean-drain-dry routines.

The activity list is modest, which fits the setting. Pembina Forks is best planned as a riverside camping, fishing, and low-key trail or cycling trip rather than a fully serviced destination.

Road access deserves attention. Alberta Parks says the campground is normally accessible by two-wheel drive, but in spring during wet weather Highway 47 can be rough and a four-wheel-drive or high-clearance vehicle is recommended.

Pack sturdy river footwear.

Things To Do

Plan around treed camping, fishing in the Pembina and McLeod rivers, paddling checks, front-country hiking, mountain biking, fat biking, electric bicycles, and quiet confluence scenery.

Planning Notes

Confirm campground status, road conditions, vehicle clearance needs, river levels, AIS precautions, fishing rules, maps, weather, advisories, and Alberta Parks updates.
