Otter-Orloff Lakes Wildland Provincial Park | Alberta

Otter-Orloff Lakes Wildland Provincial Park is an Alberta Parks wildland provincial park in the North region, 80 kilometres northeast of Slave Lake. Alberta Parks lists one campground entry and no developed day-use area count.

The official page says the park provides semi-primitive backcountry recreation and protects a diversity of landscapes and habitats.

Why Visit Otter-Orloff Lakes Wildland Provincial Park

Otter-Orloff Lakes is a remote wildland destination for backcountry camping, paddling, fishing, hunting, OHV riding, snowmobiling, and wildlife viewing. Activities include backcountry camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, backcountry hiking, hunting, on-site OHV riding, on-site snowmobiling, and wildlife viewing.

Access planning is the main challenge. Alberta Parks says vehicle access is along a road to Otter Lakes and sometimes a road to Orloff Lake. Orloff Lake access is currently closed to motorized use year-round due to trail degradation. Only foot access is permitted on the trail to Orloff Lake, and camping there is allowed only at the designated campsite.

Random backcountry camping is permitted, but Alberta Parks says there are no campsites or facilities and no permit or fee is required. OHV use is limited to existing trails only, and off-trail use is prohibited.

The official page warns that after heavy rain or snowfall, the road to Otter Lakes is not suitable for travel.

Things To Do

Plan around random camping, designated Orloff Lake camping, paddling, fishing, hunting, existing-trail OHV use, snowmobiling, wildlife viewing, and remote access checks.

Planning Notes

Confirm Orloff trail closures, Otter Lakes road conditions, random camping guidance, AIS precautions, fishing and hunting rules, maps, weather, and Alberta Parks updates.
