McLeod River Provincial Recreation Area | Alberta

McLeod River Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks recreation area in the Central region, 23 kilometres southeast of Hinton on the Robb Road. Alberta Parks lists one day-use area, one campground, and one group-use area.

West Fraser Mills-Fox Creek Development Association is shown as facility operator.

Why Visit McLeod River Provincial Recreation Area

McLeod River offers river-valley camping with trails, fishing, and sandstone-cliff scenery. Alberta Parks describes an idyllic camping experience in a unique river valley setting, with walking trails along the riverbank and the McLeod River Silviculture Trail providing an interpretive walk or mountain bike ride beneath tall spruce forest.

The day-use area sits along the river with a backdrop of sandstone cliffs. Fire pits and picnic tables support family time near the water, and Alberta Parks notes bald eagles hunt and nest in the river valley.

Activities include camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, front-country hiking, fat biking, mountain biking and cycling, and electric bicycles. Anglers can fish the McLeod River for rainbow trout, eastern brook trout, whitefish, and bull trout.

Paddling requires caution. Alberta Parks says the McLeod River is enjoyed by advanced canoeists and kayakers during high water, but fast currents make it challenging and it should be attempted only by visitors with adequate training and planning.

Things To Do
