McLean Creek Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks recreation area in Kananaskis, 12 kilometres west of Bragg Creek on Highway 66 and 1.3 kilometres south on McLean Creek Trail. Alberta Parks lists two day-use areas and one campground.
Kananaskis Campground Services Inc. is shown as facility operator.
McLean Creek is a large Kananaskis campground and day-use base beside many kilometres of trails in McLean Creek Public Land Use Zone. Alberta Parks says sites are suitable for RVs and tents, with unserviced and power options.
Activities include camping, fishing, front-country hiking, off-site OHV riding, off-site snowmobiling, and geocaching. The official page specifically says access from the campground to OHV trails in McLean Creek Public Land Use Zone is permitted.
Motorized season rules deserve careful planning. From December 1 to April 30, OHV use is restricted to tracked snow vehicles and OHVs weighing less than 450 kilograms with three or more flotation tires. Dirt bikes are permitted in the PLUZ from May 1 to November 30 only. Snowmobile access to trails from the recreation area is permitted from January 1 to March 31 only.
The official map list includes the Elbow Valley Summer Trails Map, campground map, and McLean Creek Trail interpretive pamphlet, making McLean Creek a useful base for both campground stays and trail planning.
Plan around camping, day use, fishing, front-country hiking, geocaching, McLean Creek PLUZ OHV access, seasonal snowmobiling, interpretive trail stops, and Elbow Valley maps.
