Little Bow Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area | Alberta

Little Bow Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks recreation area in the South region. The official page places it south of Vulcan, east of Highway 23 and Highway 529, with additional access via Highway 845 and Township Road 144.

Alberta Parks lists one day-use area and one campground.

Why Visit Little Bow Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area

Little Bow Reservoir is a prairie campground where the visit is centred on the water. Alberta Parks says many campsites back on to the reservoir and trees provide some shade.

The official page highlights fishing for pike, canoeing, water skiing, swimming, and bird watching. Activities include birding, camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, ice fishing, power boating, sailing, water skiing, and wind surfing. Watercraft activities include aquatic invasive species reminders, so clean-drain-dry planning should be part of any boat or paddle trip.

Birding is another important reason to visit. Alberta Parks says non-breeding American white pelicans can be found here during summer. Many colonial waterbirds nest on the numerous small islands on Little Bow Reservoir, including California gulls, ring-billed gulls, and double-crested cormorants.

Because the site is smaller and water-focused, visitors should check the official campground map, water conditions, wind, boat access, and current advisories before building a weekend around a specific site or activity.

Things To Do

Plan around reservoir camping, day use, birding, paddling, pike fishing, ice fishing, power boating, sailing, water skiing, wind surfing, swimming, and campground map review.
