La Saline Natural Area is an Alberta Parks natural area in the North region. The official page places it 40 kilometres north of Fort McMurray on the east side of the Athabasca River.
Alberta Parks lists no developed day-use area count.
La Saline is best planned as a remote, low-service natural area tied to the Athabasca River and Saline Lake backwater habitat. Alberta Parks says there are no developed trails to the natural area and that the best access is from the Athabasca River.
Activities include birding and hunting. The birding note is the strongest visitor context: the Athabasca River serves as an important migration route for many bird species, especially ducks and geese that nest on the Peace-Athabasca Delta. On the way to and from nesting grounds, many birds stop to rest and feed on the quiet backwater of Saline Lake.
Alberta Parks lists coots, mallards, widgeons, buffleheads, and green-winged teal among birds that may stay and nest on the lake. The hunting note adds that this is a small area, and hunters should be aware of possible conflicts with other recreational users.
Because there are no developed trails, visitors should plan access, landing, navigation, water levels, weather, and emergency communication carefully before treating La Saline as a birding or hunting destination.
Plan around Athabasca River access, birding, migration observation, Saline Lake backwater habitat, hunting where permitted, map review, and low-impact natural area travel.
Confirm river access, no-trail conditions, hunting regulations, licences, maps, water levels, advisories, weather, communication plans, and Alberta Parks updates.
