Kinbrook Island Provincial Park is an Alberta Parks provincial park in the South region, 13 kilometres south of Brooks off Highway 873. The park is located on Lake Newell, one of southern Alberta's largest and warmest man-made lakes.
Alberta Parks lists one day-use area, one campground, and two group-use areas.
Kinbrook Island is a major Lake Newell destination for camping, beach time, boating, birding, and warm-water recreation. Activities include birding, camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, ice fishing, power boating, sailing, swimming, volleyball, water skiing, wind surfing, geocaching, and beach use.
The official page highlights canoeing, kayaking, sailing, fishing, boating, swimming, and an interpretive trail through nearby wetlands with many bird species. Birding notes include American white pelican, ring-billed gull, California gull, double-crested cormorant, Caspian tern, eared grebe, great blue heron, common tern, and marsh habitat for ducks, coots, rails, bitterns, and geese.
Watercraft planning is important. Alberta Parks notes a 12 kilometre-per-hour speed limit in the posted swimming area and explains that all watercraft accessing Eastern Irrigation District reservoirs, including Lake Newell Reservoir, must follow AIS prevention procedures and register for an EID sticker before launching.
Check current advisories for shower and washroom construction, campsite renumbering, booth hours, water shut-off, and dump station details before booking.
Plan around camping, group use, beach time, swimming, paddling, fishing, boating, sailing, water skiing, wind surfing, birding, volleyball, geocaching, and interpretive trails.
Confirm campground maps, service closures, AIS registration, approved boat launches, speed limits, fishing rules, water availability, advisories, weather, and Alberta Parks updates.
