Why Visit Horburg Provincial Recreation Area

Horburg is a North Saskatchewan River campground and paddling access point. Alberta Parks describes it as a water adventurer's site along the river, with a hand launch for canoeists and kayakers. The river trip to Rocky Mountain House takes approximately four hours, and Alberta Parks says visitors attempting it must be prepared and knowledgeable about river paddling and water safety.

Activities include camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, and front-country hiking. The official page also notes nearby informal OHV and snowmobile trails, but off-loading within the campground and travel to trails from campsites are prohibited.

Access is a major caution. Alberta Parks has a road warning stating that the gravel access road to Horburg Campground and the North Saskatchewan River is in poor condition due to erosion, deep ruts, and standing water. High-clearance, four-wheel-drive vehicles are required.

Horburg is best for prepared campers with suitable vehicles and river-safety plans.
