Plan Harlech Provincial Recreation Area near Nordegg with treed camping, Shunda Creek fishing, trout pond access, Shunda Creek Trail, and ride-in OHV sites.
Harlech Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks site in the Central region, 13 kilometres east of Nordegg on Highway 11. Westward Bound Campgrounds is listed as facility operator.
Alberta Parks describes a well-treed campground with sites suited to smaller RVs and tents. It lists one campground and no developed day-use area count.
Why Visit Harlech Provincial Recreation Area
Harlech is a compact campground with strong links to Shunda Creek, a stocked trout pond, and designated off-site motorized trail access. Activities include camping, fishing, front-country hiking, off-site OHV riding, and off-site snowmobiling.
Anglers can fish along Shunda Creek or drive five kilometres west along Highway 11 to a fish pond stocked with rainbow trout. Hikers can follow Shunda Creek Trail from Harlech Provincial Recreation Area for 10 kilometres downstream until it reaches the North Saskatchewan River.
The OHV and snowmobiling note is a defining feature. Alberta Parks says that, in partnership with the Rail Trail initiative, Harlech has six designated campsites accessible to OHVs. Visitors can ride in and stay at sites 12 to 17 or stage an OHV camp from the location.
That makes Harlech more specialized than a simple overnight stop. Campers should match their site choice to their equipment, route plan, and current trail rules before arriving.
