Gooseberry Provincial Recreation Area | Alberta

Gooseberry Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks site in Kananaskis Country, 10 kilometres west of Bragg Creek along Highway 66. A Kananaskis Conservation Pass is required for parking.

Alberta Parks lists one campground, one visitor centre, and no developed day-use area count. Kananaskis Campground Services Inc. is shown as facility operator.

Why Visit Gooseberry Provincial Recreation Area

Gooseberry is an Elbow River campground in an aspen and pine forest, close enough to Bragg Creek for a straightforward weekend but still tied into Kananaskis trail and river planning. Alberta Parks says there are more than 80 campsites, with power sites added for RVs while keeping the charm of a few walk-in tent sites.

Activities include camping, fishing, front-country hiking, canoeing and kayaking, and fat biking. The official page describes the area as a place to fish and hike or explore other nearby opportunities, and it links to the broader Elbow Valley Summer Trails Map.

The RV planning note is practical. Alberta Parks says a sewage disposal station is located at Elbow Valley Visitor Information Centre and points visitors to Kananaskis RV sewage disposal information for other services.

No advisories were listed on the official page when researched, but visitors should still check before travel because Elbow Valley access and campground operations can change with weather, water levels, and seasonal conditions.

Things To Do

Plan around camping, RV and walk-in tent site research, fishing, front-country hiking, paddling, fat biking, Elbow Valley trail-map review, and nearby Bragg Creek stops.
