Gleniffer Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area | Alberta

Gleniffer Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks site in the Central region, 20 kilometres west of Innisfail south of Highway 54 on Gleniffer Lake at Dickson Dam.

Alberta Parks lists three day-use areas, three campgrounds, and three group-use areas. The official page describes first-come, first-served campgrounds with basic campsites, easy water access, and hand pumps with non-potable water.

Why Visit Gleniffer Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area

Gleniffer Reservoir is a large reservoir recreation area for camping, beaches, fishing, boating, picnicking, and group gatherings. Activities include beach use, camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, power boating, sailing, swimming, water skiing, wind surfing, and geocaching.

The official planning notes are practical. Firewood is not available on site, and visitors are encouraged to bring drinking water and firewood. Fishing options include Dickson Trout Pond and the Red Deer River, with the trout pond also popular for ice fishing.

Boaters should check water levels before travel. Alberta Parks says reservoir levels fluctuate through the year and boat launch access can be unpredictable in early summer. Four boat launches are listed at Cottonwood Day Use Area, North Dyke Campground, South Dyke Campground, and Dickson Point Campground.

As of the official May 7, 2026 advisory, Dickson Point was closed to public access on May 7 and May 8 for maintenance, including the campground, trout pond, boat launch, and day-use area.
