Freeman River Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks site in the Central region. The official page places it 10 kilometres northwest of Whitecourt on Highway 43 and 55 kilometres north on Highway 32, about 16 kilometres south of Swan Hills.
Alberta Parks lists one day-use area and one campground. The Town of Swan Hills is shown as leaseholder.
Freeman River is a compact lower-foothills recreation area for camping, fishing, biking, and access to nearby motorized trail systems. Alberta Parks lists camping, fishing, off-site OHV riding, off-site snowmobiling, mountain biking and cycling, and fat biking.
The motorized access notes are the most important planning details. For OHVs, Alberta Parks says direct access to the trail system from campsites is permitted, but riders should respect other campers and use an ATV only to directly access trails. For snowmobiling, direct access to the trail system is permitted, and the road is not plowed in winter.
That makes Freeman River useful as a trail-access campground, but not a place to improvise riding around the recreation area. Visitors should confirm trail status, campsite rules, and current road conditions before arriving with machines.
The official management page also identifies the park as a provincial recreation area in the Foothills - Lower Foothills natural region, with a listed size of 24.31 acres, or 9.84 hectares.
Plan around camping, fishing, direct OHV trail access from campsites, direct snowmobile trail access, mountain biking, fat biking, map review, and Swan Hills route planning.
Confirm campground status, winter road access, OHV and snowmobile rules, trail conditions, fishing regulations, maps, advisories, weather, and Alberta Parks updates.
