Castle Wildland Provincial Park | Alberta

Castle Wildland Provincial Park is an Alberta Parks wildland provincial park in southwest Alberta. Alberta Parks says it encompasses more than 80,000 hectares and protects some of the province's most rugged and ecologically rich backcountry.

The official page describes mountains, foothills, rolling valleys, wild rivers, solitude, adventure, and wide scenery.

Why Visit Castle Wildland Provincial Park

Castle Wildland is the backcountry side of the Castle landscape. Alberta Parks lists five day-use areas and five campgrounds, plus activities including front-country hiking, backcountry hiking, hunting, backcountry camping, equestrian use, backcountry equestrian use, mountain biking and cycling, and on-site OHV riding.

The recreation story is broad because the landscape is broad. The official description points to trails suited for hiking, horseback riding, biking, and winter activities such as snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, and ski touring. Anglers can seek quiet time along clear mountain streams.

Random backcountry camping is permitted, with no campsites or facilities and no permit or fee required. OHV use is allowed only on existing designated trails, and off-trail use is prohibited.

That combination gives experienced visitors freedom, but it also puts navigation, route choice, and impact reduction squarely on the trip plan.

Things To Do

Plan around backcountry hiking, front-country trailheads, random camping, equestrian travel, mountain biking, fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ski touring, and designated OHV routes.

Use official maps because route choices shape the trip.

Planning Notes

Confirm random camping guidance, trail and OHV rules, fishing and hunting regulations, maps, advisories, weather, wildlife safety, emergency planning, and Alberta Parks updates.
