Castle Provincial Park is an Alberta Parks provincial park southwest of Pincher Creek in the South Canadian Rocky Mountains. Alberta Parks says the park protects more than 25,500 hectares of rugged wilderness and more than 200 rare species of plants and animals.
The park lies in the wild Castle region, described as a critical link in the international Crown of the Continent ecosystem.
Castle is a large, activity-rich park with major camping and trail infrastructure. Alberta Parks lists 15 day-use areas, 11 campgrounds, two comfort camping options, and two group-use areas.
The official page highlights hiking, scrambling, paddling, fishing, biking, OHV riding, snowmobiling, cross-country skiing, horseback riding, hunting, camping, and free summer interpretive programs. Camping ranges from basic first-come, first-served options to comfort camping and group camping, depending on the campground.
Wildlife awareness is central. Alberta Parks says Castle and the surrounding landscape support moose, deer, elk, cougars, black bears, and grizzly bears, and tells visitors to carry bear spray, know how to use it, and keep sites clean and attractant-free.
Those wildlife notes belong in every Castle itinerary, from a short day hike to a multi-night camping trip.
