Calhoun Bay Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks recreation area on the east shore of Buck Lake. Alberta Parks places it eight kilometres east of Buck Lake Village on Highway 13 and five kilometres north on Buck Mountain Road.
The official page lists one day-use area and one campground.
Calhoun Bay is a secluded Buck Lake campground with a fishing and paddling focus. Alberta Parks describes camping off the beaten track with a few added amenities, plus open shoreline areas that are suitable for casting.
Visitors can use a hand launch for canoes or kayaks. Alberta Parks notes that a new hand launch is located on the lakeshore in the campground, while both boat launches formerly located in the creek are permanently closed because of environmental considerations and public safety concerns.
The activity list includes camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, and ice fishing. The official page tells visitors to bring firewood and drinking water because pump water is not potable and firewood is not sold onsite. Winter access for ice fishing depends on snow conditions because the road is not plowed.
That makes supply planning a real part of the visit.
Plan around camping, hand-launch paddling, shoreline casting, open-water fishing, ice fishing when access allows, day-use stops, and quiet Buck Lake downtime.
Bring drinking water and firewood plans before arrival.
Confirm campground status, hand-launch access, boat-launch closures, fishing rules, ice and snow conditions, potable water limits, maps, advisories, weather, and Alberta Parks updates.
