Buffalo Lake Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks recreation area on the northeast shore of Buffalo Lake, known locally as Boss Hill. Alberta Parks places it 21 kilometres north of Stettler on Highway 56 and seven kilometres west on the access road.
The official page lists one campground and no day-use areas, with MCS Lakeview named as facility operator.
Buffalo Lake is a secluded lakeside camping page. Alberta Parks describes walking down the shoreline or along the small beach, watching for owls, songbirds, and deer in the surrounding forest, and taking a boat onto the lake for fishing.
The activity list includes camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, power boating, swimming, and water skiing. Alberta Parks also says waterskiing and wind surfing are popular activities on the water.
Day-use expectations need care. The official page says day-use availability is limited because of the campground's small parking capacity, and on busy summer days and weekends day-use visitors should consider other sites, including Rochon Sands Provincial Park. Alberta Parks also notes there is no winter access.
That makes Buffalo Lake a better fit for campers with confirmed plans than for spontaneous peak-season day-use arrivals.
Plan around lakeside camping, small beach walks, paddling, fishing, power boating, swimming, water skiing, wind surfing, bird watching, and wildlife viewing from the forest edge.
Check busy-day and parking expectations before making a day-use plan.
Confirm campground availability, day-use limits, no-winter-access status, boat and lake conditions, fishing rules, maps, advisories, weather, and current Alberta Parks instructions.
