Brazeau Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area | Alberta

Brazeau Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area is an Alberta Parks recreation area with reservoir camping, group use, and water-based recreation. Alberta Parks lists two campgrounds and no day-use areas on the official page.

A 2026 advisory says construction on the roadway into the Main Group Use Area is scheduled from May to summer 2026, and visitors cannot reserve or access that group area during the closure.

Why Visit Brazeau Reservoir Provincial Recreation Area

Brazeau Reservoir has three camping loops. Alberta Parks says Loops A and B are unserviced but treed, while Loop C is powered, has few trees, and is close to the water. In spring, low water exposes sandy beach area on the north side beginning at the day-use area.

The Main Group site is described as a large area within walking distance to shore, with a large shelter, wood stove, and grassy area for outdoor games. The North Shore Group site is 60 kilometres south of Drayton Valley on Highway 620 and can also be accessed from Highway 11.

Activities include birding, camping, canoeing and kayaking, fishing, off-site OHV riding, power boating, off-site snowmobiling, water skiing, and wildlife viewing. Alberta Parks notes fishing in Brazeau Reservoir and Brazeau Canal, fluctuating water levels, possible floating debris, and wildlife including elk, moose, mule deer, gray wolves, and black bears.
