Blue Rapids Provincial Recreation Area | Alberta

Blue Rapids Provincial Recreation Area is part of the Eagle Point-Blue Rapids park system along the North Saskatchewan River Valley east and southeast of Drayton Valley.

Alberta Parks says the park system is made up of Blue Rapids Provincial Recreation Area and Eagle Point Provincial Park, with the Eagle Point-Blue Rapids Parks Council cooperatively managing the two protected areas with Alberta Parks.

Why Visit Blue Rapids Provincial Recreation Area

Blue Rapids is a multi-use river-valley recreation area with a larger activity list than its no-day-use count might suggest. Alberta Parks lists hunting, on-site OHV riding, front-country hiking, birding, mountain biking and cycling, fishing, canoeing and kayaking, snowshoeing, and wildlife viewing.

The official page directs visitors to the Parks Council for details on recreational activities, events, volunteering, environmental education programs, and more. That local management context is important because activity details may change and permitted activities can vary within a park.

OHV rules are specific. Alberta Parks says OHV riding is allowed only on designated trails and only in Blue Rapids Provincial Recreation Area, not Eagle Point Provincial Park. On-highway vehicles such as Jeeps and 4x4s are not permitted on the designated OHV trails.

Things To Do

Plan around designated OHV trails, front-country hiking, birding, biking, fishing, paddling, snowshoeing, wildlife viewing, hunting-rule checks, and Parks Council activity updates.

Random camping is not permitted; Alberta Parks points campers to Willey West Campground in Eagle Point Provincial Park.

Planning Notes

Confirm OHV trail rules, random-camping restrictions, activity updates, hunting and fishing regulations, maps, advisories, river conditions, weather, and Alberta Parks guidance.
