Linden is a Kneehill County village in central Alberta’s Central Prairies region. It is known for its Mennonite farming roots, coulee setting, local campground, trout pond and compact village services.

How Linden Started
The Village of Linden’s official history says Mennonite farmers first settled the area in the mid-1930s, bringing agricultural skills, a strong work ethic and cultural and spiritual traditions that still shape the community. Early local enterprise included a Depression-era cheese factory that gained national recognition for quality cheese, followed by a trading co-op.
Linden incorporated as a village in 1964 with 264 residents. The village grew from those farming, co-operative and service roots into a small rural centre for residents, nearby farms and travellers moving through Kneehill County.
What Linden Is Like Today
Linden had a 2021 census population of 704. It remains a small village with local businesses, community organizations, churches, seniors’ services, health services, a library, school connections and public recreation spaces.
The coulee is central to the village’s visitor identity. Linden’s parks and recreation page describes a natural coulee through town, a stocked catch-and-release trout pond, walking paths, playgrounds, baseball diamonds, a soccer field, tennis courts and an outdoor rink.
Linden is not built around a single major attraction. It is better understood as a quiet rural village with a strong cultural identity and useful outdoor spaces for a short stop or overnight.
Things to Do and Places Nearby
East Coulee Campground is the most straightforward visitor facility. The village lists seven serviced sites with water and electrical hookups, first-come registration, a nearby sani-dump and a pond-side setting in the valley that intersects the village.
Use the coulee paths and trout pond for a simple outdoor break. The pond is catch-and-release, and the paths make a good leg-stretcher for families or travellers who prefer a calm village stop.
