History of Kashechewan

Kashechewan was established in 1957 as a relocation site for the people of Fort Albany First Nation. The community was incorporated in 1980 and has since grown to become an important hub for the region. The community was founded by Chief John Sutherland, who was instrumental in the relocation of the people of Fort Albany First Nation.
