Kingsclear First Nation was established in 1825, when the Wolastoqiyik people were forced to relocate from their traditional lands along the Saint John River. The community was incorporated in 1969, and today is home to over 1,000 members.

The community was founded by Chief John Julian, who was a respected leader and advocate for Indigenous rights. Chief Julian fought tirelessly for the recognition of Indigenous land rights and was instrumental in the establishment of the Kingsclear Reserve.
