Labrador | Travel & Tourism Information Guide

It's one of the last great wilderness areas on the face of the earth. Enter a world of towering mountains, massive rock faces, huge lakes and rivers that run on forever. Here the air is clean, the water is clear and pure, the people are equally unspoiled, and wildlife run free in startling diversity and number. A trip to Labrador is not a run-of-the-mill vacation. It's a great adventure. This vast mainland portion of the province stretches north to Cape Chidley on Ungava Bay. Eons of glacial action, erosion, and internal upheaval have carved a land of unsurpassed beauty where aficionados of the great outdoor experience can indulge their passion. The whole territory is teeming with game and fish, with an experienced, resourceful group of outfitters to guide you.

The people of Labrador are proud and self-reliant. The Innu and Inuit cultures are rooted in a deep, spiritual relationship with the environment. In recent centuries, settlers from many European backgrounds have also learned to survive in a land that is both gentle and hostile. The history of this part of the province is a long and intriguing one. For the indigenous people of the region, it can be traced back almost 9,000 years to the early human habitation of the North American continent. It would be difficult to choose the best season to visit Labrador. But winter is this region's most characteristic season. In winter there's so much to do. Snowmobiling, dogsledding, cross-country and downhill skiing, ice fishing, snowshoeing, and winter camping. Clean, unspoiled and exciting, it's a once-in-a-lifetime travel experience.
